Summary

Rushing Beat is a classic SNES beat‑'em‑up that lets you mash punches, kicks and a handful of weapons while juggling a jump button and a dedicated attack button. The combo system feels solid, and when you take enough hits your character flips into an "Angry" mode – temporarily invincible with beefed‑up throws. Later entries even added a Rage gauge that fills up for a burst of power, and the special moves no longer drain health.

The series got a wild makeover outside Japan: the first game became Rival Turf! with protagonists Jack Flak and Oozie Nelson replacing Rick Norton and Douglas Bild, while the second turned into Brawl Brothers, renaming the heroes Hack and Slash. The Japanese version of Brawl Brothers is still accessible via a cheat code, and the third title was released as The Peace Keepers, trimming story scenes and swapping the soundtrack.

A 2026 revival, RUSHING BEAT X: Return Of Brawl Brothers, slots between Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers, bringing back the original roster and adding two fresh faces – Kahlua, a self‑taught Jeet Kune Do fighter, and Juliet Rorinzam, a cyber‑clone maid with a mysterious agenda.

Storyline

Rushing Beat on the SNES follows two police officers, plain‑clothes detective Rick Norton and uniformed cop Douglas Bild, as they patrol the neon‑lit streets of Neo‑Cisco – a futuristic version of San Francisco. The original English title hints at a “rushing attack” and emphasizes that both heroes are working a beat together. In the Japanese storyline, the city’s high‑tech backdrop serves as the stage for their fight against crime. The game’s narrative centers on their partnership and the fast‑paced action that defines the title.
