Summary

Brawl Brothers (known in Japan as Rushing Beat Ran) packs classic side‑scroll beat ’em up action with a surprisingly deep toolbox. Besides the usual health‑boosting food, you can snatch sticks, guns or grenades, and an “Angry Mode” spikes your power when you’re low on health. The cartridge even hides the Japanese version, unlocked by a cheat code, which swaps character names, drops the maze‑like stages, adds a longer ending and even a controversial groin‑kick for Douglas Bild that Nintendo of America censored. Those hidden differences give the game a dual personality that’s rare on the SNES.

You pick from five fighters – Hack (Rick Norton in the US), Slash (Douglas Bild), the judo master Lord J, the ninja Kazan and wrestler Wendy Milan – each with signature throws, from a German suplex to a split‑second ninja dash. Their boss arenas are themed to their styles, like a steel‑caged platform for Hack or a rotating dojo for Kazan. In solo play the CPU assigns a random partner, while the remaining characters (or their clones in the Japanese story) become the early bosses, culminating in a showdown with the staff‑wielding final foe, Dieter/Iceman.

Storyline

Rushing Beat Ran – Fukusei Toshi (known simply as Rushing Beat Ran) follows former police officer Rick Norton, who has hung up his badge to run a small martial‑arts school. When rumors spread about illegal experiments and cloning projects flooding the streets, Rick realizes the city of Neo‑Cisco is in danger.

Determined to stop the sinister plot, Rick gathers his old allies—each with their own fighting style—to form a makeshift task force. Together they dive into the underworld, battling cloned henchmen and high‑tech foes.

Their ultimate goal is to reclaim Neo‑Cisco from the evil organization behind the experiments, restoring peace to the city and proving that old heroes can still make a difference.
