Summary

Popeye: Ijiwaru Majo Seahag no Maki turns the classic sailor into a whip‑wielding anchor‑master on the Super Famicom. Each level begins with a board‑game‑style overworld where you spin a dial and move a heart‑shaped piece across a grid; landing on a heart triggers a timed side‑scrolling platform stage. The game mixes familiar Popeye foes—Bolo, Ox, Brutus, and the titular Sea Hag—with quirky power‑ups: a tire that rolls over enemies, a propeller‑anchor for high jumps, and even a frog suit that lets you splash through water sections. Damage‑dealing items like bombs and a lightning‑charged anchor add a strategic layer to the map phase. When you finally face a boss, spinach appears to grant temporary invincibility and a powerful fist attack, letting you finish the showdown with a satisfying smash. All of this makes the title feel like a board game and a platformer rolled into one, offering a fresh spin on the Popeye universe.

Storyline

After countless defeats at the hands of Popeye, the evil Sea Hag devises a fool‑proof revenge plan in Popeye – Ijiwaru Majo Sea Hag no Maki. She removes the hearts of Popeye’s friends, turning them to stone and scattering the heart pieces across five separate islands.

Popeye must explore each island, locate the missing heart fragments, and restore his pals. Meanwhile General Bunzo places a 100,000,000G bounty on the hearts, attracting bounty hunters like Bolo and Ox who are eager to claim the reward.

Brutus, hoping to impress Olive, also jumps into the hunt, turning the adventure into a frantic race against time for Popeye to rescue his friends and put an end to the Sea Hag’s scheme.
