Summary
I first fell into the world of Pink Goes to Hollywood on the SNES and was instantly drawn to its quirky hub. The opening level, “Honey, I Shrunk the Pink,” shrinks the Pink Panther to the size of a billiard ball and lets you scurry through a house while dodging mischievous rats. Your only buffer against danger is a hat; collect spare hats to restore it, and pink‑head icons appear for extra lives.
The game’s “Tricks” add a layer of strategy – a stoplight, for example, freezes nearby hazards for a short window. Level layouts differ from the Genesis counterpart, offering fresh puzzles and platforming routes. Most memorable is the meta Game Over screen: a studio stage where you either exit and reset or climb a token‑grown staircase to “Continue,” instantly refilling five extra lives. This playful take on failure keeps the action rolling even after a slip.
Storyline
Pink Goes to Hollywood follows the Pink Panther as he heads to Hollywood to audition for a big role. At the start he is shrunk to the size of a billiard ball in a level called “Honey, I Shrunk the Pink,” a nod to the 1989 film, and must crawl through a house while dodging rats to reach the hub that opens the other movie sets. Chased by his nemesis Inspector Clouseau, Pink flees into the MGM Studios and can explore distinct sets such as a graveyard, a manor and a jungle. The game uses side‑scrolling action; Pink can jump, duck, run, climb and punch enemies with a boxing glove. Props like magic carpets, umbrellas and stairs, plus items such as stoplights, jackhammers, bowling balls, shields and super‑gloves, give him extra abilities.
