Summary

Nitropunks: Mightheads, known outside Japan as Rocky Rodent, is a SNES side‑scrolling platformer that feels like a mash‑up of Sonic’s speed and Mario’s classic level design. The six‑level adventure is presented with comic‑book style cutscenes, complete with text bubbles that give the whole thing a quirky, Saturday‑morning cartoon vibe.

The core of the action revolves around Rocky’s four transformable hairstyles. The first cut lets him skewer foes, hurl enemies, smash porous blocks and cling to certain ledges for a boost jump. A mohawk can be tossed like a boomerang or lodged into walls to act as a trampoline. Braids function as a grappling hook, while a corkscrew haircut lets Rocky bounce on his head for extra‑high jumps. Each time an enemy hits Rocky he loses the current hairstyle, and if he’s bare‑headed a hit costs him a life.

The game’s fast‑paced levels reward quick reflexes and clever use of each haircut, turning a simple platform run into a constantly shifting puzzle of movement and combat.

Storyline

Nitropunks – Might Heads drops players into a quirky underworld where the hapless hero Rocky Rodent stumbles into trouble at Pie Face Balboa’s restaurant. While digging into a plate, Rocky accidentally swallows an envelope containing Balboa’s protection money, prompting the mob to kidnap Balboa’s daughter. The angry don, Don Garcia, has already taken Melody, the owner of the Rose Restaurant’s girl, as leverage. Both fathers bargain with Rocky, promising an all‑you‑can‑eat feast if he can rescue their daughters. The game’s plot revolves around Rocky’s frantic dash through neon‑lit streets and diners, battling thugs to retrieve the missing girls and claim his endless buffet.
