Summary

The SNES version of *Mr. Do!* brings the classic arcade maze‑digging action to the home console, letting you guide a circus‑clown‑turned‑hero through earth‑filled tunnels while gathering clusters of cherries. The simple premise hides a surprisingly deep strategy: you must balance digging routes, timing the bounce of a single power ball, and using the plentiful apples as both weapons and obstacles.

Creeps—red, dinosaur‑like monsters—spawn in the centre and chase you relentlessly. You can crush them by dropping an apple onto their heads, but a falling apple can also end your run if it lands on you. The power ball, once thrown, bounces until it hits a creep, then returns to your hands after a delay that grows with each use, forcing you to plan each shot carefully.

Every time your score hits a multiple of 5,000, a letter from the word EXTRA appears as an Alphamonster. Defeating it with the power ball grants the letter; collecting all five spells EXTRA, triggers a brief Astro Boy‑themed cut‑scene, and rewards an extra life. These letters are coveted because Alphamonsters also devour apples, making them tougher to trap.

Occasionally a diamond surfaces beneath a crushed apple, instantly ending the level and adding a bonus credit. A generator that turns into a food item can freeze all creeps and summon three blue monsters, adding a temporary puzzle element before you can resume normal play.

Critics were mixed on the SNES port: Famitsu gave it a modest 25 out of 40, while Electronic Gaming Monthly scored it just 4.9 out of 10, noting the lack of fresh features for a game already a decade old. Still, the core loop of digging, apple‑crushing, and chasing the EXTRA letters retains a nostalgic charm for fans of retro arcade challenges.
