Summary
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers – The Movie on the SNES is a side‑scrolling brawler that lets you team up with six Rangers – Billy, Kimberly, the White‑Ranger Tommy, and the newcomers Rocky, Adam and Aisha, who take the places of the original trio. You collect thunderbolt icons dropped by foes to fill a Morphing meter; once it’s full you can trigger a digitized morph sequence and unleash a powerful kick plus each Ranger’s signature weapon in a special attack. A hidden code even lets you start each stage already morphed. The game spans seven levels, skips the Megazord fights of its predecessor, and closes with a cameo from the Ninja Megazord.
Critics were split: Electronic Gaming Monthly called it a mediocre Final Fight clone, giving it a 5.875/10 for solid graphics but limited move‑set variety, while GamePro praised its two‑player simultaneous action, multi‑plane scrolling, and approachable controls, deeming it a fun run for fans and casual gamers alike.
Storyline
In the SNES title Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie – often called the Morphinominal Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie – the Rangers find themselves stripped of their powers, the Command Center shattered and Zordon on the brink of death. Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd are forced to retreat as a far more sinister foe, Ivan Ooze, threatens the planet. The story sets the stage for a desperate fight to stop the slime‑y menace.
Each stage begins with the hero in his or her civilian guise, battling Lord Zedd’s Putty Patrol until the level’s boss appears. The first five bosses are drawn directly from the TV series’ second season, while the sixth is an original creation for the game, and the final showdown pits the Rangers against Ivan Ooze himself. The morphing animation mirrors the Season 2 transformation sequence, though it omits the iconic Red Ranger helmet lock‑up at the end. The Ninja Megazord from the film makes a cameo during the ending cut‑scene.
