Summary

Mega Lo Mania – Jikuu Daisenryaku (known in the West simply as Mega‑Lo‑Mania) feels like a time‑traveling sandbox where you juggle men, research and territory. You pick one of four coloured gods – Scarlet, Caesar, Oberon or Madcap – and drop your first tower on a chosen sector of an island that’s split into up to sixteen slices. From there the whole game is a balancing act: assign idle men to mining, design, factory work or army building, and watch the numbers swell when you leave any of them untouched.

Technology advances only when enough designs are completed, unlocking new weapons, shields and factories that let you push deeper into enemy sectors. Alliances are possible, but they freeze expansion for both sides, so you have to decide whether a temporary truce is worth the lost ground. Each epoch – from 9500 BC to 2001 AD – hands you a fresh batch of 100 men, and the islands are alphabetically named, letting you tackle them in any order before moving on.

Behind the scenes the team scrapped an arcade‑style robot shooter to focus on pure strategy, even swapping a floppy‑disk‑sized speech library after a nasty freeze bug. Critics praised its early tech‑tree and real‑time combat, calling it a pioneering RTS even if later ports didn’t always hit the mark.
