Summary

MechWarrior on the Super‑NES brings the BattleTech universe to a vibrant Mode 7 first‑person perspective, replacing the original PC’s flat‑shaded polygons with scrolling terrain and dynamic cockpit displays.

The title introduced a roster of mechs designed solely for the console: four light‑weight units—including the jump‑jet‑powered Wasp and the fast‑flanking Spider—plus two medium choices, the balanced Phoenix Hawk and the sturdier Wolverine.

Heavy hitters feature the Warhammer and Battlemaster, both armored powerhouses, while the massive Atlas stands alone as the only assault‑class machine, boasting unmatched firepower at the expense of speed.

Critics praised its atmospheric combat, giving Super Gamer an 88 % rating; Power Unlimited scored it 85 % and GameRankings compiled a 66.5 % aggregate.

Storyline

MechWarrior (SNES) drops you into the year 3017, when MechWarrior Herras Ragen watches his family slaughtered by the rogue mercenary group known as the Dark Wing Lance. Ten years later, in 3027, you assume Herras' role and set out across the Inner Sphere to track down the culprits. A gritty bar on a nearby planet serves as your hub, where a network of contacts and allies feed you intel on the Dark Wing’s movements. Each mission pits you against the Lance’s operatives, gradually narrowing the trail to their hidden leader. The final showdown rewards you with vengeance, as Herras finally eliminates the Dark Wing members and avenges his family.
