Summary

Mazinger Z packs a surprisingly deep arsenal for a 16‑bit platformer. You can unleash super‑charged karate strikes, fire missiles, unleash the iconic Breast Fire, and execute the ever‑ready Rocket Punch, which is usable even when the energy meter is empty—though you’ll have to wait for the arms to retract before punching again. Special attacks drain a slowly regenerating energy gauge, adding a layer of timing to each encounter.

Each stage is populated with a roster of foes lifted straight from the anime, ranging from projectile‑shooting bots to grapple‑hungry mechs that swarm you in groups. Defeated enemies drop health pickups and, on rare occasions, a power‑up that temporarily transforms the Rocket Punch into the razor‑sharp Iron Cutter.

Every level culminates in a showdown with a tougher boss robot, whose attack patterns are more elaborate and demand you juggle your weaponry and energy management to survive.

Storyline

Dr. Hell's robot army has razed Tokyo, leaving the city in ruins. Only the teenage pilot Kouji Kabuto and his super‑robot Mazinger Z stand between the invaders and global domination.

The SNES version of Mazinger Z (catalogue code 3D7F) strings together animated cutscenes between stages, using them to advance the plot and remind players why the battle matters.
