Summary

Madden NFL 95 (often just called Madden ’95) marked a subtle but important shift for the series. For the first time EA gave black NFL athletes their proper skin tones and even featured a black player on the cover, while the NFLPA license finally let the game use real player names.

The Super NES version added a host of on‑field upgrades: a larger field, weather options, over a hundred injury types, and new player animations like high‑stepping runs and quarterback slides. You could now swap any player into any position, see a side‑by‑side match‑up chart, and even try “windowless” passing. The soundtrack even borrowed the NFL on Fox theme by Scott Schreer, a nod to the broadcast feel.

Critics took note. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the SNES edition scores of 85 % and 90 %, praising smoother animation and fresh playbooks, while GamePro’s Weekend Warrior highlighted the deeper substitution system without sacrificing the series’ easy‑to‑learn feel. In 1995, Total! placed Madden NFL 95 at #22 on its Top 100 SNES Games list, cementing its reputation as a standout football title of its era.
