Summary
Lost Vikings 2 drops you into a side‑scrolling puzzle‑platform adventure where you juggle three of five quirky heroes, swapping control at will to snag three hidden items and reach the exit. Each level predetermines which trio is available, forcing you to think about who can lift a key, who can smash a wall, and who can glide past a gap.
Erik’s turbo boots let him vault higher and smash overhead barriers, while his helmet doubles as a makeshift snorkel. Baleog wields a bionic arm that punches enemies from a short distance and hooks onto special points for aerial swings. Olaf’s signature fart propels him upward and his hang‑glider lets him drift, plus he can shrink to slip through tiny passages. Newcomers Fang the werewolf scales walls with clawed grips and slashes foes, and Scorch the dragon hurls fireballs, triggers switches, and can fly until he tires, then glide like Olaf.
The SNES edition, handled by Blizzard, trades the pre‑rendered 3D of the PC and console ports for a bright, cartoony palette and drops the extensive voice cast, but the core puzzles and character personalities stay intact.
A two‑player co‑op lets each gamer command a hero while the third can be swapped in at any moment; all three must survive with three health points each, or the level becomes unwinnable, prompting a quick restart.
Storyline
After escaping alien Tomator in the first game, Erik the Swift, Olaf the Stout, and Baleog the Fierce are captured again while returning from a fishing trip. Tomator warps them to his lair and unleashes a robotic guard into an arena, but a blackout lets the Vikings dismantle the robot and wear its parts as armor, granting them new abilities. While planning an escape, Olaf accidentally pulls a lever on a time machine, sending the trio hurtling through history. Equipped with the high‑tech weaponry they stole from Tomator, they must locate the time machine in each era to get home. Their jumps take them to Transylvania in 1437 AD, the Dark Ages (700 AD), a pirate ship at Smugglers Cove in 1789, the Amazon Jungle in 200 BC, and finally a post‑apocalyptic world where Tomator has seized the machine. Along the way they befriend a werewolf named Fang and a dragon called Scorch, both of whom aid their quest. In the final showdown Tomator is revealed to be a mischievous child named Tommy; his parents scold him and restore the Vikings, Fang, and Scorch to their ship. Lost Vikings II ends with the trio back home, still armed with the stolen high‑tech gear.
