Summary

Super Air Diver, known in the West as Lock On, drops you into a high‑octane combat flight simulator on the SNES. As the UN’s elite pilot, you answer a global crisis by tackling a mix of air‑to‑air and air‑to‑ground sorties across varied landscapes. The title lets you pilot four distinct jets—the British Panavia Tornado ADV, Japan’s Mitsubishi F‑2, the rugged A‑10 Thunderbolt II, and the iconic F‑14 Tomcat—each with its own handling quirks and armament palettes. You can fire rapid‑fire M61 Vulcan cannons or lock onto targets with heat‑seeking missiles, making strategic aircraft switches essential to crush enemy fighters, tanks, and fortified sites. Thanks to the SNES’s Mode 7 engine, the terrain scrolls with a convincing pseudo‑3‑D effect, giving a surprisingly cinematic sense of altitude and speed.

Storyline

In the SNES shooter Lock On, a ruthless warlord launches a massive military invasion that endangers every nation on Earth. The United Nations respond by calling in their top ace, pilot Jake Steel, to counter the threat. Jake is tasked with breaking through the enemy’s fortified fleets and dismantling the warlord’s war machines. As he flies deeper into hostile territory, each mission brings him closer to restoring global peace. The game’s narrative drives the high‑octane aerial combat, positioning Jake Steel as the world’s last hope against the looming conquest.
