Summary
The SNES version of Lethal Enforcers ships with Konami’s Justifier, a revolver‑shaped light gun that feels oddly satisfying in the hands, and a pink second gun that could be ordered by mail. If you don’t have a gun, the standard controller works, but the Justifier’s accuracy is what the game’s reviewers highlighted.
You start each round with a six‑shot .38 revolver and can pick up a .357 Magnum, a semi‑automatic pistol, a shotgun, an assault rifle, a submachine gun or a grenade launcher as you clear the streets. Reloading means pointing the gun away from the screen and pulling the trigger, and losing a life drops you back to the basic revolver. Enemies wear sunglasses, ski masks or gas masks, while civilians and fellow officers are bare‑faced, making it clear who you’re allowed to hit.
Performance is tracked by rank – Patrolman up through Commander – and any civilian casualty stalls or even reverses a promotion. Nintendo’s censorship replaces blood with a brief green or blue flash, and the original stage names were softened ("Chinatown Assault" becomes "Downtown Assault," "Drug Dealers" turns into "Gunrunners").
The game’s digitized‑photo graphics sparked controversy for their realism, yet GamePro praised the Justifier’s precision, the crisp visuals, and the hyper‑active soundtrack. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a modest 24/40, noting the toned‑down violence, while Total! still listed it as the 58th best SNES title in 1995.
Storyline
In Lethal Enforcers for the SNES, you step into the shoes of Don Marshall, a Chicago Police Department officer taking a quick coffee break at a donut shop. While sipping the last drop, his dispatcher calls to report that a major crime organization has flooded the city, and only two elite officers have survived the initial onslaught. Marshall, one of the survivors, heads straight to a bank that’s become the gang’s next target, ready for what will become the toughest shift of his career. He’s tasked with halting the escalating crime wave that threatens Chicago’s safety, and a second player can join as a partner to help bring the law back to the streets.
