Summary

Lemmings 2: The Tribes on the Super NES looks almost identical to the original, but the SNES version carries a few quirks that keep it interesting. The graphics stay true to the PC release while a rescored soundtrack by Mike Clarke gives the tribal themes a fresh, chip‑tune flavor. A hidden easter egg lets you plug the Super Scope into the second controller port and literally blast the lemmings across the screen – a playful nod to the console’s peripheral lineup. The port also supports the SNES Mouse and even adds a parallax background, extra animations and richer sound effects, evidence of the extra time Psygnosis granted the team to polish the console version. Critics praised the game’s expanded skill set, non‑linear level order and the way the new tribes spice up the puzzles, earning it a Codie award for Best Action/Arcade Game and a spot on many SNES best‑of lists.

Storyline

In Lemmings 2: The Tribes (often just called Lemmings 2), the twelve tribes of Lemming Island have lived in harmony for generations. An ancient prophecy, however, warns that a great darkness will soon engulf the island, threatening the lemmings' very existence. The only hope lies in the Lemming Talisman, a powerful artifact split into twelve pieces—one held by each tribe. With the player’s guidance, the lemmings must gather the talisman fragments and reach the island’s centre. Doing so will allow them to leave the island and escape the looming doom.
