Summary
Lamborghini American Challenge, originally released as Crazy Cars III, feels like a polished step up from its predecessor. The game adds a two‑player mode, a jazzy fusion soundtrack, and a revamped scoring system that lets you save every five races instead of only after a division challenge. Even the quirky night‑goggles item makes a cameo only in the SNES version, while the car no longer rockets to the top of the screen after high‑speed slopes.
You start with a modest Lamborghini and $6,000, then race through 60 U.S. tracks across four divisions, each packed with 20 rivals and a rotating cast of local and Sunday drivers. Winning bets and bonuses lets you upgrade your Diablo, keeping you ahead of increasingly tough opponents in three leagues that culminate in a timed highway challenge full of trucks.
Weather isn’t just a backdrop – rain and snow affect handling, and the police will chase you if you exceed 110 km/h. A police ram can cripple your car, forcing you to decide whether to push on, pull over and pay a fine, or risk losing race points.
The SNES version even supports the Mouse and Super Scope, swapping the usual betting mode for a shoot‑‘em‑up style race where you can blast rivals, and it uses a password system instead of the computer‑save feature.
