Summary

Kishin Douji Zenki: Battle Raiden is a quirky SNES action‑platformer that pulls its charm straight from the off‑beat Zenki manga and anime. Developed by CAProduction and released by Hudson Soft in the mid‑90s, the game drops you into the shoes of the demon‑boy Zenki, whose powers swing wildly between a simple punch‑and‑dash mode and a full‑blown supernatural arsenal.

At the start of each stage Zenki is in his “powered‑down” state, limited to basic attacks, but whenever Chiaki recovers her magical bracelet or focuses her will, she can trigger his transformation. The powered‑up form unlocks flashy moves like a pillar of energy, an electrified punch, and a dashing strike, plus a risky Rudora attack that wipes out every on‑screen foe while also hurting Zenki.

Levels are split into two platforming sections bristling with hidden stone monuments; smash one to reveal items or clear obstacles. Each first half ends with a mid‑boss, and the second culminates in a full boss showdown, keeping the pacing tight and the action constantly surprising.

Storyline

Kishin Douji Zenki – Battle Raiden (often just called Zenki: Battle Raiden) drops you into a mythic clash between ancient spirits and modern chaos. Long ago, the Japanese bodhisattva Ozunu Enno harnessed demon gods to defeat the demon goddess Karuma, then sealed his most powerful ally, Zenki, inside a stone pillar. Centuries later, his descendant Chiaki Enno discovers a magical bracelet, frees the sealed demon, and watches him initially appear as a bratty, child‑like spirit.

To fight Karuma’s lingering influence, Zenki must be transformed into his true, formidable form. The goddess’s scattered seeds corrupt people with dark desires, turning them into monstrous foes that Chiaki and Zenki must purge. After one victory, Chiaki receives a vision of five cloaked figures, a warning that the battle is far from over. Determined, the pair set out to track down these demon leaders, hoping to seal the remaining evil once and for all.
