Summary

Kiki Kaikai: Kuro Manto no Nazo, known abroad as Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, is a modern remake that revisits the charm of the original SNES title. The project was handled by Tengo Project, a team that includes several developers who actually worked on the first Pocky & Rocky for the Super Nintendo, giving the game an authentic pedigree. It plays from a classic top‑down perspective and supports both solo play and cooperative action, staying true to its arcade roots as the sequel to Taito’s 1986 KiKi KaiKai. The stage lineup blends refreshed versions of beloved Pocky & Rocky levels with brand‑new areas, offering a fresh yet familiar experience. By July 2022 the title had moved over 100,000 units, a modest but notable achievement for a retro‑focused release.

Storyline

Kiki Kaikai - Nazo no Kuro Manteau picks up where Pocky & Rocky left off, with the defeated Black Mantle using a time‑travel device to return to the past and seek revenge. The game follows the adventures of a young Shinto shrine maiden named Sayo‑chan and her new tanuki sidekick, Manuke, as they race against the vengeful Black Mantle to save a band of goblins from his evil schemes.
