Summary

Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball lets you step onto every one of the 28 MLB parks from the early ’90s, from Fenway’s Green Monster to the teal wall of Joe Robbie Stadium. While the game can’t use real player faces, it packs over 700 name slots that you can rename, and the hidden stats match the actual 1993 season, so the numbers feel authentic even if the avatars look generic. Each venue carries its own quirks – Dodger Stadium’s slanted outfield crowd, Kauffman Stadium’s waterfalls, and even a generic astroturf field for the Phillies – giving the SNES a surprisingly varied visual tour.

Season mode is a battery‑backed marathon: pick a team and grind through 26, 78 or the full 162‑game schedule, with division play that mirrors the six‑division format MLB was about to adopt. Win your division, earn a playoff spot, and chase the World Series, all while tracking your own team’s stats against static CPU data. The game also throws in a home‑run derby where you can slug against Griffey or a roster of tongue‑in‑cheek power hitters like Warren Track and Nick Noheart.

Audio adds a nostalgic touch: former umpire Steve Palermo calls balls and strikes, and a frustrated batter’s “Oh come on!” is lifted straight from a Jim Belushi line. A collector’s card tucked inside the cartridge was a nice bonus for fans.

The title isn’t without its hiccups. A season‑long bug can wipe home‑run totals after the All‑Star break, and some World Series matchups mysteriously lock you out of your best pitchers. Even saved name edits sometimes vanish, a reminder that the game’s ambition sometimes outpaced the SNES’s cartridge limits.
