Summary

Kevin Keegan's Player Manager (known in Germany as K. H. Rummenigge's Player Manager) lets you run a football club from the boardroom to the pitch on the SNES. Instead of micromanaging every pass, you craft tactics, scout talent and negotiate transfers, while the game also lets you step onto the field yourself—provided your in‑game avatar is still of playing age and actually listed in the squad. The engine is a loose adaptation of Dino Dini’s classic Player Manager for the Amiga and Atari ST, though the original creator isn’t credited. The league is a three‑division system of 48 clubs, with the top tier called Division 1—a reminder of the pre‑Premier‑League era—and two cup competitions: the Misawa Cup (the FA Cup) and the Premier Cup (the League Cup), each with its own knockout quirks and Wembley finals. Training, scouting reports and even newspaper headlines flesh out the experience, and the on‑field positions are colour‑coded for quick reference. Contemporary reviews were solid, with Power Unlimited giving it 80%, Consoles Plus 71% and Germany’s Total! 4.25 out of 6.

Storyline

K.H. Rummenigge's Player Manager (often just called Player Manager) puts you in the shoes of a player‑coach, juggling on‑field action with managerial duties. You start the career at 28 years old, guiding a team while still lacing up your boots. By the end of the 2000 season, when your character reaches 35, the game forces an automatic retirement, ending your playing days. From that point on you can no longer control the squad during matches, watching from the sidelines as a pure manager. After a few more seasons you have the option to sign a nephew or another family member, which restores your ability to take direct control of the players on the pitch again.
