Summary

The SNES version of Joe & Mac—often called Caveman Ninja—is a reworked spin on the arcade classic. Instead of a forced progression, you wander an overworld map and pick which stages to tackle, which also happen to be longer than their arcade counterparts. Hidden bonus rooms pop up both within levels and on the map, rewarding exploration with extra lives or power‑ups. While the iconic boomerang and club survive, several weapons disappear and the few that remain can’t be charged up, adding a tighter combat feel. The final showdown is unique to the console, and the game wraps up with only two possible endings rather than the arcade’s three variants.

Storyline

Joe & Mac (also known as Caveman Ninja) puts you in the shoes of two colorful cavemen—green‑haired Joe and blue‑haired Mac—who trek through a string of prehistoric stages. Along the way they wield an odd arsenal of boomerangs, bones, fire, flint, electricity, stone wheels and clubs to fight a hostile rival tribe. The core mission is to rescue a group of women abducted by that tribe. The Japanese version opens with a gritty cutscene of the cavemen storming a hut while dragging the cavewomen by their hair. After the final showdown the game offers three different exits, each triggering a slightly altered ending sequence.
