Summary

Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics upgrades the original's side‑scroller brawler with a surprisingly deep RPG flavor. Besides the classic caveman‑ninja combat, you collect stone wheels during runs and can spend them at the Tiki Village to buy meat, heal, or even redesign your home hut. The overhead world map lets you hop to any of the six themed zones—valley, jungle, snowy peaks, swamp, volcano and more—and revisit completed stages for extra cash or power‑ups.

Every level hides friendly creatures you can ride, and each boss (from a Stegosaurus to a soaring Pteranodon) drops a rainbow stone once defeated. After the final arena you must battle the bosses again, then face Gork, who mutates into a warthog demon before the ultimate showdown for the crown.

The game resurfaced in a 2017 Retro‑Bit SNES cartridge, hit Nintendo Switch’s Classics service in 2019, and landed on Evercade in 2020, with another collection slated for 2026. Critics gave it solid scores—Super Gamer 75% and Nintendo Game Zone 89%—and IGN placed it at #61 among SNES titles.

Storyline

Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics (often just called Joe & Mac 2) follows the two caveman‑ninja heroes as they trek through jungles, deserts, icy valleys and other prehistoric settings. Along the way they battle hostile Neanderthals and massive dinosaur bosses, each victory yielding a colorful rainbow stone.

The game even lets the pair court a village girl, get married and eventually raise a child, adding a surprisingly domestic twist to the action. Collecting all the rainbow stones unlocks the final showdown with the evil Gork, who draws power from a mysterious crown.

Gork transforms into a warthog‑like demon for the first fight; after defeating him, a second battle secures the crown and ends the heroes' quest.
