Summary

Honō no Tōkyūji: Dodge Danpei, often just called Dodge Danpei, brings the wild energy of its manga and anime roots to the Super Famicom. Sunsoft handled the launch on July 31 1992, delivering a side‑scrolling beat‑’em‑up that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon come to life. The game’s visual style leans heavily into the exaggerated expressions and bright color palette that fans of the series will instantly recognize. Controls are tight enough to let you chain punches and kicks without feeling clunky, while the occasional on‑screen gag keeps the pacing lively. Even if you’ve never seen the original comic, the frantic action and quirky humor make it a memorable SNES oddity worth a try.

Storyline

In Honoo no Doukyuuji – Dodge Danpei, the story follows Danpei Ichigeki, a kid who lives and breathes dodgeball and can’t wait to join his school’s dodgeball club as he starts elementary school. On the morning of the entrance ceremony he pays a visit to the grave of his father, the legendary player Daijurou Ichigeki, and accidentally knocks the gravestone over with a powerful throw. Inside the tomb he discovers a ball, which he assumes is a gift from his dad, and the find fuels his determination. After surviving a grueling entrance exam, Danpei finally earns a spot on the club’s roster. From that point on he throws everything he has into every match, striving to live up to his father’s famed legacy.
