Summary

Holy Umbrella: Dondera no Mubou!! is a quirky platformer that feels like a love‑letter to the off‑beat charm of Violinist of Hameln. While it rides the same goofy wave, it distinguishes itself with its own brand of silliness and over‑the‑top camp. The game leans heavily into cliché plot tropes, turning them into a self‑aware parade of absurdity.

Despite the relentless cheesiness, the level design is surprisingly tight and the controls feel buttery smooth. In short, it’s a campy overload that somehow manages to stay genuinely fun.

Storyline

Holy Umbrella - Dondera no Mubou!! follows a modern Japanese man who is whisked away from 20th‑century Japan into a strange fantasy realm. The world he arrives in is under siege by the tyrannical emperor Dondera and his army of mechanized minions.

The only thing that brought him there—a simple umbrella—also becomes his most powerful weapon. He must wield the umbrella to battle Dondera’s forces and try to restore peace to the threatened land.
