Summary

Hiryuu no Ken S: Hyper Version is the turbo‑charged sequel to Culture Brain’s Ultimate Fighter, and it only ever saw a Japanese release on December 11, 1992. The biggest tweak is a selectable turbo speed that lets you dial the combat up to a frantic pace, which feels like a secret cheat for anyone who loves a fast‑handed brawl. In the VS tournament mode you can line up as many as eight fighters—human or CPU—and watch them duke it out in one‑on‑one bouts until a champion emerges. The roster offers twelve distinct characters, each equipped with a signature technique that encourages you to experiment with different playstyles.

When you step into battle mode, the game throws a single boss at you, and the animation mode adds a quirky twist: boss fights turn into turn‑based duels reminiscent of classic RPGs, complete with selectable attacks, defensive moves, and even an auto‑fight option for those lazy afternoons. Eight difficulty tiers keep the challenge fresh, while hidden miracle water items pop up to restore health when you’re on the brink. All these quirks make Hyper Version a surprisingly deep fighting experience that feels both nostalgic and oddly strategic.

Storyline

In Hiryuu no Ken S – Hyper Version’s story mode, a demon called Dargon is resurrected with the sole purpose of wiping out the Flying Warriors, a team of superheroes. Dargon dispatches his Tusk Soldiers to raid the Shorinji temple, where they steal the secret scroll of Hiryu‑no‑ken and a sacred sword. The thieves then issue a challenge: anyone who wishes to reclaim the artifacts must appear at the World Tournament.

The player takes on the role of Rick, who enters the fighting tournament to retrieve the stolen items. Gameplay unfolds as a side‑scrolling beat‑'em‑up, punctuated by occasional one‑on‑one boss battles. Victory means the Flying Warriors’ prized scroll and sword are restored.
