Summary
Heracles no Eikō III: Kamigami no Chinmoku, the third entry in the series, first appeared on the Super Famicom in Japan on April 24 1992. It later resurfaced on the Japanese Virtual Console in 2007 and even made a brief mobile phone debut in 2008 courtesy of G‑Mode, giving the title a surprisingly long afterlife for a regional exclusive.
The game leans heavily on ancient mythic motifs, most notably the idea of immortality. An immortal protagonist can perform daring feats—like leaping off sheer cliffs—without the usual penalty of injury, a mechanic that feels both whimsical and true to the source material.
Kazushige Nojima penned the script, guiding the hero through encounters with the Greek pantheon as he searches for his own identity. True to its predecessor, the experience prioritises a deep, narrative‑driven adventure over any groundbreaking system changes, feeling comfortably familiar to anyone who’s played early‑90s RPGs.
Storyline
In Herakles no Eikou III - Kamigami no Chinmoku (often called Herakles III), the protagonist awakens with total memory loss. He soon discovers a mysterious power that shields him from any bodily harm, effectively rendering him immortal. This immortality lets him perform feats ordinary characters cannot, such as leaping off high cliffs without injury.
The only thread to his past is a recurring dream that shows a specific place, prompting his quest to locate it. Along the way, the hero encounters the pantheon of Greek gods, each tied to episodes drawn from mythology. The storyline was written by Kazushige Nojima, who wove the mythic encounters into the hero’s search for his true identity.
