Summary

Hello! Pac-Man (officially Pac‑ManĀ 2: The New Adventures) flips the classic maze formula into a quirky side‑scrolling adventure. Instead of steering Pac‑Man directly, I use a slingshot to nudge him toward objects, coax his attention, or even prod his mood—feed him an apple for a happy grin, or jab his face for a grumpy scowl. His emotional state isn’t just cosmetic; a smug Pac‑Man will ignore commands, while a frightened one will bolt at the sight of Blinky, Pinky, Inky or Clyde.

The game sprinkles traditional arcade flair throughout: a Power Pellet in the bottom‑corner inventory transforms him into Super Pac‑Man, letting him zip around and gobble ghosts, and hidden arcade cabinets let you drop into the original Pac‑Man or, if you locate three secret cartridges, unlock Ms. Pac‑Man (or the quirky Pac‑Jr. on the Genesis). Some sections thrust Pac‑Man onto a hang‑glider or minecart, demanding quick reflexes.

Critics praised the bold departure and its humorous animation, though they noted the indirect control can feel like an acquired taste. Still, the blend of puzzle‑solving, mood‑based gameplay, and nostalgic Easter eggs makes Hello! Pac‑Man a memorable oddball in the series.

Storyline

Hello! Pac-Man opens with Pac‑Man introducing himself and the game’s controls before launching into a loosely linked series of family‑driven misadventures. First he must fetch milk for Pac‑Baby from a nearby farm, then Ms. Pac‑Man asks him to pick a special flower for Lucy’s birthday; armed with a trolley ticket Pac‑Man hang‑glides through mountains, dodging ghosts and boulders, only to arrive after the party has already begun. Later Pac‑Jr returns home upset because ghosts stole his guitar in Pac‑City, prompting Pac‑Man to use a train ticket, disguise himself as a security guard, and recover the instrument.
In the final segment a news report reveals that ghosts are stealing ABC gum from children, and the Ghost Witch of Netor hijacks the broadcast to challenge Pac‑Man. He battles through an abandoned factory, confronts the Gum Monster, and as Super Pac‑Man defeats the creature the Witch and her minions flee. Though the gum is lost, the town and Pac‑Man’s family celebrate him as a hero.
