Summary

Gourmet Sentai Barayarō is a surreal side‑scrolling beat‑'em‑up that first appeared on the Super Famicom in 1995, crafted by Winds and originally published by Virgin Interactive. After a 2018 re‑release by BlazePro/Piko Interactive, the game finally received an official English SNES cartridge in 2019 under the casual title Gourmet Warriors.

The action is divided into five stages, each racing against a strict timer; when the clock runs out, every ingredient you’ve collected vanishes. There’s no life counter—death triggers an instant game over—so managing the countdown is crucial, especially if you need to recover strength after a boss fight.

A quirky extra lets you hold a button while moving the D‑pad to strike a variety of sentai poses, essentially flexing the character’s muscles for show, even though it offers no gameplay advantage.

Storyline

In the SNES title Gourmet Sentai – Bara Yarou (often just called Bara Yarou), the setting is the rebuilt metropolis of Zeus Heaven Magic City sometime in the 20XX era, after a nuclear World War III has scorched the world. Survival in this high‑tech city hinges on consuming protein from any available food source. A shadowy group called Bath, rallying under the slogan “the power of our protein and all,” spreads violence and threatens to plunge Zeus into ruin. In response, the city’s leaders launch a secret project to forge the ultimate soldier, clad in the strongest body armor ever created.

The project succeeds by transforming three ordinary citizens—Bonjour, Mademoiselle, and Très Bien—into cyber‑enhanced fighting machines. These three heroes must now battle Bath’s growing forces and protect Zeus before the city falls completely.
