Summary
Goof Troop lets you team up as Goofy and his son Max on the SNES, swapping between a slower‑but‑hard‑hitting Goofy and a quicker, more agile Max. The game’s level design is a string of puzzle‑filled stages where you’ll need to juggle items like grappling hooks, bells, candles, shovels, boards and keys—each serving a specific purpose, from crossing gaps to luring enemies or lighting dark corridors. You can only carry one tool at a time (two in solo play), so timing and cooperation become crucial, especially when you have to knock barrels, toss bombs, or push blocks to unlock doors.
Multiplayer adds a layer of tension: if one player runs out of lives they can respawn with three extra lives by moving to a new screen, but a simultaneous wipe ends the run unless you have a continue. Collectibles such as fruit, red diamonds and blue diamonds sprinkle extra lives and continues throughout the adventure, rewarding careful navigation. Notably, the title was one of Shinji Mikami’s early projects before he became famous for Resident Evil, showcasing his knack for blending action and puzzle mechanics even in a cartoon‑style platformer.
Storyline
In Goofy to Max – Kaizoku Shima no Daibouken, Goofy and his son Max set out on a fishing trip with their neighbors Pete and PJ. While casting lines, a massive pirate ship swoops in, kidnaps Pete and PJ, and heads for the pirate stronghold on Spoonerville Island. Unable to stop the vessel, Goofy and Max decide to explore the island and rescue their friends, only to discover the pirates have mistaken Pete for their feared captain, Keelhaul Pete, who was supposedly swallowed by a whale years ago. Pete revels in the royal treatment, but the truth emerges when Max realizes the “Pete” on the pirate ship is actually the real Keelhaul Pete, freshly expelled from the whale. After a showdown that saves Pete and PJ from an alligator’s jaws, the quartet returns to their fishing spot, the adventure finally over.
