Summary
Godzilla: Kaijū Daikessen feels like a love‑letter to SNES fighters I grew up with. It’s a Japan‑only 2D brawler where you pick from eight classic monsters—Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Anguirus, Mechagodzilla and Biollante—and battle across a map of Japan, each bout limited to sixty seconds. The combat mirrors Street Fighter II and Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden, with light/heavy strikes, projectile clashes, and a roar that can stun opponents, while a fluctuating energy bar fuels special moves.
Two‑player Vs adds Mechagodzilla 2 and Atragon to the roster, and secret codes unlock Super Mechagodzilla and the Gotengo ship for hard‑mode challenges. A 1995 Nintendo Power preview even listed a planned U.S. launch under the name “Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters,” but it vanished—likely sidelined by the emerging N64 and PlayStation era.
