Summary

Godzilla: Kaijū Daikessen (often shortened to Godzilla: Kaiju Daikessen) is a 2‑D fighting title for the Super Famicom that lets you pick from eight classic monsters – Godzilla, Anguirus, King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Mechagodzilla, Biollante and Mothra – and duke it out on a scrolling map of Japan. Each bout plays out on a Street‑Fighter‑style screen with 60‑second rounds, a health bar and a secondary gauge that fuels special attacks or a stun‑roar, and the combat feels a lot like the SNES Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden series.

The single‑player mode sends you through a chain of monster opponents, ending with a showdown against Mechagodzilla (or its upgraded Super Mechagodzilla form) or the futuristic ship Gotengo if you crank the difficulty up. Two‑player versus lets you pull Mechagodzilla 2 and Atragon into the mix, adding a few extra battlegrounds.

Each creature has its own flavor: Godzilla is a balanced brawler with atomic rays, Anguirus spins and rolls but lacks projectiles, King Ghidorah flies and fires electric beams, while Gigan combines a buzzsaw arm with flame breath. Megalon trades speed for crushing drill combos, Biollante relies on tentacles and spores, and Mothra darts around the screen, even borrowing a cameo from Battra for a boost.

Storyline

In Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen, the single‑player mode lets you step into the shoes of a classic kaiju. You can pick from Godzilla, Anguirus, King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Mechagodzilla, Biollante, or Mothra.

After selecting a monster, the game drops you onto a stylized map of Japan where you must choose an opponent to fight. Each battle pits your chosen creature against another iconic monster in a side‑scrolling showdown.
