Summary
Go Go Ackman is a scrolling platformer that feels like a love‑letter to classic Mega Man action. You control Ackman as he punches, charges a wave of energy, and even hops onto foes to stun them before turning them into a sliding projectile. The game adds a quirky bomb mechanic – you can stash up to three bombs that wipe out everything on screen – and a weapon slot for a sword, boomerang or pistol, which disappears the moment you take a hit. Levels are mostly linear but hide secret routes and items for the curious explorer, rewarding a bit of back‑tracking. All three Super Famicom entries have been rescued by fan translators, so English‑speaking players can finally experience the series’ evolving cast, from the Metal Angels rockers to the flamboyant police officer and his rival Tenshi‑kun, who even become playable partners in the final installment.
Storyline
Ackman, a short demonic child, awakens after a 50‑year nap to discover he is now 200 years old. His demon parents inform him that his duty is to begin killing humans and selling their souls to the Great Demon King.
His eternal rival, Tenshi‑kun, a cherub‑like angel presumed dead, is horrified and repeatedly attempts to slay Ackman, but always fails. Tenshi even dispatches an army of angels and hired assassins to stop the soul‑stealing spree.
The Super Famicom series reflects this rivalry: the first game follows the comic‑book premise, the second pits Ackman against an angelic rock band called the Metal Angels, and the final entry has him confronting a flamboyant police officer while reluctantly teaming up with Tenshi‑kun.
