Summary

Gemfire drops you into a medieval‑style map where every province, vassal and glittering gem belongs to a noble house you choose at the start. Each turn represents a month, and you get a single action per territory – hire troops, boost the economy, lay fences, or try a diplomatic plunder or alliance. The real thrill kicks in when you decide to attack; the screen flips to a tactical battle where you command up to five units – archers, knights, horsemen and either a wizard or a hired mercenary – moving them turn‑by‑turn across a grid. Victory comes in three ways: capture the enemy’s stronghold, wipe out all opposing units, or starve them out by cutting off food supplies. The blend of careful resource juggling and bite‑sized battles makes Gemfire feel like a chess match wrapped in fantasy flair.

Storyline

Gemfire unfolds on the fictional Isle of Ishmeria, where six wizards once guarded the land with distinct magics. A fire‑breathing dragon, summoned by a rogue wizard, threatened the island until the sea‑dwelling Pastha urged the wizards to seal the beast inside a ruby atop a crown called Gemfire, turning the wizards themselves into the six jewels that supported the crown.

When the crown fell into the hands of King Eselred of House Lankshire, he abused its power and ruled tyrannically. His daughter, Princess Robyn, stole the crown, freed the six wizard gems and sent them skyward, but Eselred captured her and locked her in a tower before she could release the ruby.

The liberated gems each took residence with one of Ishmeria’s noble houses—most notably House Blanche (Prince Erin with Emerald Wizard Zendor) and House Lyle (Prince Ander with Sapphire Wizard Pluvius). Four other houses (Flax, Coryll, Chrysalis, Molbrew) start with their own wizards, while lesser houses may gain a wizard later. United by the Pastha’s guidance, these houses vie to overthrow Eselred, claim the throne, and restore peace to Ishmeria.
