Summary
Final Fight 2 carries the classic side‑scroll brawling to the SNES with a few fresh twists. It was the first Capcom‑run console sequel to appear without an arcade counterpart, and it finally adds two‑player cooperative play that the original SNES port lacked. You can pick from three fighters: Haggar’s power‑lifting wrestling style, Carlos—a Japanese‑blooded South American who flashes a sword for his special attack, and Maki, a nimble female master of the fictional Bushin‑ryū ninjutsu school.
The levels span six distinct Eurasian locales—Hong Kong, France, Holland, England, Italy and Japan—each littered with breakable drums hiding food, score‑boosters and three weapons (tonfa, lumber, knife). Hidden dolls add a cheeky advantage: the Genryusai doll grants temporary invincibility, while the Guy doll gives an extra life.
A secret input lets both players choose the same character, and a hidden difficulty ladder controls how much of the true ending you see; only the Expert setting unlocks the full finale. The game later resurfaced on Wii’s Virtual Console in 2009, bringing the experience to a new generation. International versions also swapped the Japanese knife‑wielding women Mary and Eliza for male foes Leon and Robert, and removed the meat‑cleaver boss Won Won.
Storyline
Final Fight 2 drops us back into Metro City a few years after the original showdown. With Cody on vacation with Jessica and Guy training abroad, Mayor Mike Haggar thinks the city is finally at peace. That calm shatters when the remnants of Mad Gear regroup under a new boss, Retu, and kidnap Guy’s sensei Genryusai and his daughter Rena in Japan.
Maki Genryusai, Rena’s younger sister, contacts Haggar for help. Joined by his old friend Carlos Miyamoto, Haggar jets around Eurasia, battling Mad Gear thugs in Hong Kong, Brazil, and other locales before the trail leads back to Japan. The trio finally confronts Retu, defeats him, and rescues both Genryusai and Rena.
After the victory, Guy sends a thank‑you letter from his training trip, confirming that the heroes have once again saved the world from Mad Gear’s revenge.
