Summary
Final Fantasy IV Easy Type is a Super Famicom tweak that leans into the series’ classic ATB combat while turning the difficulty dial up toward the friendly side. Weapon attack stats are bumped, and a handful of armor and accessory effects get a noticeable defensive boost, making early battles feel less punishing than the standard Japanese version. The American release borrowed some of these gentler settings, but the Easy Type remains the most forgiving iteration.
Beyond the balance changes, the game still showcases the hallmark five‑character party system and the vivid Mode 7 magic and airship sequences that made the original so memorable. Players can still shuffle front‑line and back‑line positions, experiment with white, black, summon and the lone Ninjutsu spell, and rely on the real‑time ATB flow that defines the combat rhythm.
For anyone who loves the story but prefers a smoother learning curve, this version offers the same rich world and character roster with a little extra cushion on the damage side, letting the adventure shine without constant grinding.
Storyline
Final Fantasy IV – Easy Type on the SNES follows the dark knight Cecil Harvey, captain of the Red Wings, as he is stripped of rank after questioning the king’s motives. Sent with his friend Kain Highwind to deliver a ring to the Village of Mist, the pair witness monsters ravaging the town and rescue the lone survivor Rydia, who summons the titan Titan in anger. Joined by Rosa Farrell, a white‑mage archer and Cecil’s love interest, the party soon learns that the Red Wings have stolen the Water Crystal from Mysidia and the Fire Crystal from Damcyan, prompting a quest to protect the remaining Wind and Earth Crystals.
The journey takes the group through Fabul, where they meet monk Yang, and up Mt. Ordeals, where Cecil confronts his inner darkness and becomes a Paladin. Along the way they recruit the twin mages Palom and Porom, the sage Tellah, the bard‑prince Edward, and later the ninja Edge. After a series of betrayals by Golbez – the mind‑controlled commander of the Red Wings – and the revelation that Golbez is actually Cecil’s older brother, the heroes travel to the underworld, the Tower of Babil, and finally the Moon itself.
On the Moon they encounter the Lunarian sage Fusoya, who explains that Zemus, a Lunarian seeking to wipe out humanity, is using Golbez to awaken the Giant of Babil. The party defeats the Giant, breaks Zemus’s control over Golbez, and together with Fusoya confront the final evil spirit Zeromus. With the prayers of Mysidia’s elders empowering them, Cecil and his allies destroy Zeromus and free the world.
The epilogue shows Cecil crowned king, Rosa queen, and the whole cast celebrating their wedding, while Kain stands atop Mt. Ordeals, vowing redemption for his past deeds.
