Summary
Super Strike Eagle drops you into a high‑octane SNES flight‑sim where every sortie feels like a Cold‑War briefing. You pilot a single F‑15, juggling a limited fuel gauge while testing the Sidewinder missile and machine‑gun against air, land and water targets that range from hostile MiG‑29s to sprawling nuclear power plants—destroy those too close and you’ll contract radiation sickness that must be cured with precious extra missions. The game splits into a practice round then a series of day and night combat zones; optional targets reward extra points, and taking out enemy airfields actually stops further MiG attacks. Advanced missions even let you bomb chemical‑weapon factories and terrorist camps for bonus scores, though there’s no cartridge save—only passwords to pick up where you left off. Nintendo Power gave it a solid 3.45/5, while EGM scored it 65%, reflecting its steep learning curve but rewarding depth.
Storyline
In F-15 Super Strike Eagle (often called Super Strike Eagle) you take the seat of a United Nations pilot tasked with coaxing rogue governments back into UN cooperation. Each successful military campaign against a hostile regime raises that nation’s flag again atop the UN Headquarters in New York. The game pits you against forces from Libya, Iraq, Cuba and North Korea, which field Soviet‑built MiG‑27 and MiG‑29 fighters for you to engage. If your F‑15 crashes or you are killed, the corresponding flag is lowered to half‑staff and a somber rendition of “Taps” plays as the world mourns the fallen pilot.
