Summary
Emit Vol. 3, titled Watashi ni Sayonara o, wraps up Koei’s quirky English‑learning adventure series. The game isn’t a typical RPG; it’s a "sound novel" that syncs on‑screen text with CD‑audio cues. Using a peripheral called Voicer‑kun—an IR emitter that tells the CD when to jump tracks—the player hears native‑spoken English at key moments, turning the experience into a sort of language classroom built into a story.
The third installment was written by celebrated author Akagawa Jirou and carries on the series’ premise of an alternate world where people age backwards. While it never achieved mainstream success in the West, the title was praised in Japan for its creative educational approach. Reviews were mixed; Famicom Tsūshin gave the Saturn version a modest 23 / 40, reflecting the niche appeal of its hybrid gameplay.
For collectors, Emit’s place in the "English Dream" line—alongside its sister volume Dark Hunter—marks a rare experiment where video games double as language tools.
Storyline
In EMIT Vol. 3: Watashi ni Sayonara wo (often just called Watashi ni Sayonara), the tension spikes when Ichirou and Yuri’s mother grow suspicious of a doppelganger masquerading as Yuri. Ichirou, who initially thought the new Yuri had simply matured, becomes convinced the second Yuri is the impostor and shares his doubts with the mother, who has noticed the same oddities.
Back in Yuri’s world, Julia has seized Yuri’s life, staying young while Yuri ages in her realm. When Yuri staggers home, wounded by a gunshot to the shoulder, Julia attacks with a knife. Yuri dodges, tries to reason, and mentions Ken’s concern, but Julia refuses to surrender and flees just as Ichirou and the mother arrive.
Later, a confused Ichirou grabs Yuri’s arm, still mistaking her for Julia, but she cries out in pain and his question about her identity finally convinces him she’s the real Yuri. Days after her recovery, Yuri returns to her proper age, Ken retrieves his mother—now a small, aging girl—and the group parts amicably, though Julia remains reluctant to leave Ichirou.
