Summary
Earthworm Jim 2 hit the SNES just after its Genesis counterpart, swapping in fresh background art and a neat weapon‑switching feature that let me hop between an auto‑aim gun and the all‑screen “Barn Blaster.” The game keeps the goofy run‑and‑gun core but bursts into bizarre variety: Snott joins as a stretchy sidekick you can swing from or use as a parachute, and new power‑ups like the chip‑butty boost Jim’s suit to 200 %. One minute you’re navigating a slime‑y tunnel as a blind cave salamander in the “Villi People” level, the next you’re answering absurd trivia questions for a game‑show twist. Another segment inflates Jim’s head like a balloon, forcing a careful float past sharp hazards, while an isometric shooter stage has him riding a pocket rocket to fend off Major Mucus. The finale trades the usual boss fight for a wild race against Psy‑Crow to rescue Princess What’s‑Her‑Name. Critics at GamePro loved both versions, and IGN even crowned it 40th on the Top 100 SNES Games list. The SNES edition resurfaced on Nintendo Classics in March 2022, delighting nostalgic fans.
Storyline
In Earthworm Jim 2 you blast through a quirky series of stages, each one more bizarre than the last, on a mission to rescue the elusive Princess What's‑Her‑Name from the clutches of the villainous Psy‑Crow. After a frantic final showdown Jim finally frees the princess, only for the game to pull a goofy reveal: Jim, the princess, and Psy‑Crow are all secretly cows in disguise.
