Storyline

Mid‑game, strange alien crystals appear across the planet, corrupting any creature that consumes them into monstrous, over‑powered beings. These crystal‑enhanced foes hoard resources and stall the natural flow of evolution, forcing the player to confront and defeat them in each Age. The crystals are later revealed to be the work of an advanced Martian civilization that tried to accelerate Earth’s development. Realizing the danger, the Martians withdraw, choosing to observe until humanity is ready.

In the final Age, the Age of Eden, the player learns a hidden entity named Bolbox controls the remaining crystal‑tainted lifeforms. Bolbox, a gigantic single‑celled organism that believes it is the first human, must be defeated in a climactic battle for the right to join Gaia.
