Summary

Dual Orb – Seirei Tama Densetsu feels like a hidden gem from the early ’90s, a Japanese‑style RPG that still manages to surprise me with its first‑person, turn‑based battles. The game follows Ralph as he wanders the world, gradually recruiting a quirky cast of companions who flesh out the party and the story’s mystery. I was intrigued to learn that Prism Kikaku crafted the title for the Super Famicom, with future Nippon Ichi Software CEO Sohei Niikawa contributing during its development—a fact documented in Micom BASIC Magazine. The original launch even came with special Dual Orb telephone cards for readers, a quirky promotional touch that adds to its cult appeal. Though Famimaga gave it a modest 18.86 out of 30, Game Rant later called the series "worth remembering," and the sequel Dual Orb II shows the lasting enthusiasm of its fans.

Storyline

In Dual Orb – Seirei Tama Densetsu, an alternate reality mirrors our own, where humans once lived in harmony with animals, fairies and dragons. The dragons were the oldest and most powerful race, but human fear drove them apart, shattering the world’s balance and leaving only a handful of mysterious dragons behind.

You play as Ralph, a young fighter apprentice who lives with his elderly master near a quiet village. On the day of his graduation, the master sends him to meet a crucial figure, and at the hut Ralph encounters the spirit of a mighty dragon—the creator of the universe itself.

The dragon spirit chooses Ralph to stop an evil entity bent on destroying the universe. As a token of his trust, the dragon gifts Ralph a magical Orb that houses its own soul. With the Orb in hand, Ralph’s quest to restore balance and confront the darkness begins.
