Summary

Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 3, known in Europe as Dragon Ball Z: Ultime Menace, feels like a love letter to classic arcade fighters while still wearing its Dragon Ball skin. The split‑screen radar lets you chase opponents across the arena without losing sight, and the six‑button layout gives each character a satisfying mix of Ki blasts, meteor combos and dash‑back tricks that feel surprisingly deep for a 1994 SNES title. I’m especially drawn to the roster’s oddball mix—future Trunks, a Majin‑powered Vegeta and even a hidden fighter you unlock with a cheat code—each transformation adding a fresh visual flair. The soundtrack, a collaboration between Switch.E, Kenji Yamamoto and Shinji Amagishi, pumps a gritty, synth‑heavy energy that still holds up when you crank the volume. Despite lacking a story mode, the game’s speed, vibrant sprites and the nostalgic split‑screen radar keep the battles feeling fresh, which is why it moved nearly a million copies in Japan alone.

Storyline

Dragon Ball Z – Ultime Menace (often shortened to Ultimate Menace) drops players straight into the chaotic Majin Buu saga. The roster pulls from that arc, letting you control fan‑favorites like Goku, Goten, both versions of Trunks, Majin Vegeta, Gohan, Supreme Kai, Majin Buu, Dabura and Android 18.

The game doesn’t include a separate story mode; instead the plot is conveyed simply by the choice of characters you select from the Buu timeline. Because the narrative is limited to this character list, the experience feels more like a fighting showcase than a full‑blown adventure.
