Summary

Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension feels like the ultimate 16‑bit showdown for fans of Toriyama's world. The game keeps the classic one‑on‑one combat of the Super Butōden line but adds a “Rush Battle” Ki‑blast counterattack and a mechanic that can launch an opponent to the back of the stage, all while merging the health and Ki meters into a single bar. Specials actually drain a little HP, but recharging Ki pushes the gauge back up, creating a constant risk‑reward loop that kept me glued to the controller.

The ten‑fighter roster—from Goku and Frieza to both forms of Majin Buu—covers every major arc, and the four‑button layout lets you chain meteor combos without overwhelming finger gymnastics. Running on a 20‑megabit SA1 cartridge, the graphics shine with detailed sprites and vibrant backgrounds, a quality many reviewers praised despite the split‑screen’s removal.

European players missed the story mode that shipped in Japan, a loss that drew plenty of criticism, yet the core gameplay still earned strong reviews, landing the title on numerous best‑of lists before the SNES era slipped away.

Storyline

Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension takes players on a straight‑through adventure that starts with the iconic Frieza saga and carries on through every major showdown until the final resolution of the Majin Buu saga. The story follows the original anime’s timeline, letting you relive Goku’s battle against Frieza, the Android and Cell confrontations, and the ultimate fight against Buu, ending with the series’ concluding victory.
