Summary

Dragon Ball Z: Chou Gokuuden – Kakusei Hen lets you step into the shoes of Gohan, a welcome addition that expands the roster beyond the usual heroes. The game keeps the familiar feel of its predecessor, with each fighter battling alongside their allies in vivid, side‑scrolling action. I’m especially drawn to how the characters literally stand by your side, turning the fights into a dynamic team showcase. The sprite work captures the energy of the series while keeping the controls tight enough for quick combos. Overall, Kakusei Hen feels like a love letter to fans who wanted more of the younger Saiyan on the battlefield.

Storyline

Super Gokuden: Kakusei‑Hen, the SNES entry often referred to simply as Chou Gokuuden, retells a large swath of the Dragon Ball Z saga. The game opens with Goku’s showdown against Piccolo at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, a key moment from the Piccolo Jr. arc. Players relive the tension of that tournament and the early battles that set the stage for the series.

The story then jumps forward to the climactic confrontation with Frieza on Namek, after Goku has achieved the legendary Super Saiyan transformation. This final fight mirrors the iconic Frieza saga, giving players a chance to experience the dramatic power shift and resolution. By spanning from the tournament to the Super Saiyan showdown, the game offers a condensed but faithful retelling of two of DBZ’s most memorable arcs.
