Summary

Demon's Crest, known in Japan as Demon's Blazon: Makaimura Monshou Hen, is a side‑scrolling platform adventure that lives inside Capcom’s Ghosts ’n Goblins universe. It slots into the Gargoyle’s Quest sub‑series, letting you step into the spiky shoes of Firebrand, the red‑scaled demon that first appeared as an enemy.
The game blends classic platforming with light RPG mechanics, dividing the world into six distinct areas that you can revisit after acquiring new Crests. Those Crests unlock Metroidvania‑style shortcuts, letting you slip through doors, trigger hidden boss fights, or reach items that were out of reach before.
Firebrand’s toolkit starts simple—fire breath, wall‑clinging claws, and a modest hover wing—but each Crest morphs him into a new form: Ground, Aerial, Tidal, Legendary, and finally Ultimate Gargoyle, each with its own combat flair and traversal tricks.
Scattered throughout the stages are extra hit points, flasks, spell vellums, and talismans that boost abilities, turning the hunt for upgrades into a rewarding side quest.
The title launched in Japan on October 21 1994 and crossed to North America the following month, quickly becoming a cult favorite for its deep exploration and satisfying transformation system.

Storyline

Demon's Blazon – Makaimura Monshou Hen (often just called Demon’s Blazon) centers on six magical Crests that each command an element—Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Time and Heaven. When all are united they form the Crest of Infinity, granting limitless power to its holder. In the Demon Realm the Crests sparked a brutal war among demons, and the red demon Firebrand managed to claim five of them and defeat the Demon Dragon Somulo for the Crest of Heaven, though he was gravely wounded in the process.

Seizing the opportunity, the cunning demon Phalanx ambushed the weakened Firebrand, stealing every Crest except a shattered fragment of the Fire Crest that Firebrand kept. Phalanx used the stolen Crests to summon the Crest of Infinity, set the Demon Realm ablaze, and crowned himself ruler, while Firebrand was locked in a coliseum and forced to battle a zombified Somulo.

After escaping, Firebrand embarks on a quest to reclaim the Crests and exact revenge. Along the way he repeatedly clashes with Phalanx’s general Arma, who grudgingly returns most Crests. The final showdown in Phalanx’s castle offers three possible endings—anarchy, sealed Heaven Crest, or Firebrand discarding the Crests after defeating a transformed Phalanx. Achieving the third ending unlocks a secret password for the Ultimate Gargoyle transformation and a hidden fourth ending where Firebrand defeats a secret Dark Demon before casting away the Crests in pride.
