Summary

Demolition Man on the SNES blends classic side‑scroll platforming with overhead shooter stages, letting you fire in eight directions no matter which perspective you’re in. The levels are packed with gun‑wielding foes that can take a few hits before going down, and scattered power‑ups keep your health and ammo topped up as you push forward.

You’ll cycle through a basic police handgun, a punchier magnum, a wide‑spread shotgun, and a handful of hand grenades, each feeling distinct enough to matter in the heat of battle. In the top‑down sections you’re tasked with rescuing hostages, a mechanic that unlocks doors elsewhere in the level and adds a puzzle‑like layer to the action. The game is unforgiving with limited lives and continues, but a hidden cheat menu—accessed by pausing and entering a button sequence—lets you snag extra power‑ups or skip ahead if you get stuck.

Storyline

In Demolition Man you play as John Spartan, the film’s tough‑as‑nails cop, on a mission to track down his arch‑enemy Simon Phoenix. The game opens in 1996 with a gritty Los Angeles stage, then jumps to 2032 where the city has been rebuilt as the utopian, crime‑free San Angeles. Throughout the levels Spartan rescues hostages, battles through a post‑apocalyptic landscape, and faces Phoenix in a series of short teaser confrontations that lead to a final showdown inside a cryo‑prison. Both heroes were originally sentenced to 30‑year cryostasis rehabilitation, but the brain‑washing fails and Phoenix awakens to resume his crime spree while the world around him has dramatically changed. Spartan, a relic of a more violent era, is the only one capable of stopping him again.
