Summary

Cosmo Gang the Puzzle (often just called Cosmo Gang: The Puzzle) feels like a love‑letter to the early‑90s falling‑block craze, but with a quirky twist that sets it apart from Tetris or Puyo Puyo. Instead of plain bricks, you’re juggling pink‑hued Jammers and colorful block groups, and the only way to dispatch those mischievous aliens is with a blue sphere that shoots in the direction indicated by its arrow. Each successful sweep fills a central meter, and once it’s full a star drops, wiping out every Jammer beneath it – a satisfying payoff that rewards strategic timing.

The game also sneaks in a competitive two‑player mode where the opponent’s screen is populated by white robots called Pipopapo‑Tai. By clearing more Jammers than your rival you can dump their enemies onto their side, turning a simple puzzle into a tense tug‑of‑war. The arcade version ran on Namco’s NA‑1 board, and when it migrated to the Super Famicom a “Genius Book” was added, offering tips and tricks for mastering the increasingly tight difficulty curve that Namco deliberately cranked up for arcade appeal.

Even though the Cosmo Gang cast never broke out of Japan, the game earned a Gamest Hit Game award and laid the groundwork for the later Pac‑Attack, proving that a cute, chaotic puzzle can still capture players’ attention.
