Summary
Cool Spot turns the 7 Up mascot into a surprisingly lively platformer. You guide Spot through colorful levels, jumping, clinging to walls and hurling soda bubbles at enemies, while rescuing identical “cool spots” locked in cages. The game constantly pushes you to collect a growing quota of scattered spots, and a quirky health meter shows Spot’s face gradually slumping as damage piles up.
Each stage is timed and punctuated by flag‑pole checkpoints, and beating a level can unlock a bonus stage where hidden letters spell the slogan “UNCOLA.” Grabbing a letter grants a continue that restarts you on the same level, though your score resets. The SNES version earned high marks from publications like GameZone (88/100) and Nintendo Power (15.3/20), landing on several “Top SNES Games” lists and selling a million copies worldwide.
Even years later, reviewers still praise its smooth animation and catchy sound, and the title spawned a sequel, Spot Goes to Hollywood, cementing its place as one of the few non‑Mario platformers that earned lasting respect.
Storyline
In Cool Spot for the SNES, your friends have been locked away, and you must step in as the red‑and‑white mascot to rescue them. The mission is simple: navigate the colorful levels, defeat the obstacles, and free your chums before time runs out.
