Summary
Chrono Trigger: Schala Edition is an expansive fan‑made ROM hack that finally answers the long‑running “what if Schala escaped the Ocean Palace?” question. The creator, known for the Golbez and General Leo editions of Final Fantasy IV and VI, reshapes the 1995 Ted Woolsey translation, adding fresh dialogue, new Techs, weapons and items while keeping the original’s charm.
The hack sends Magus, Marle and the party back to 12,000 BC on a quest to rescue Schala, opening brand‑new dungeons, enemy types and boss battles. Around a dozen added locations and extra NPCs flesh out the world, and upgraded shops sprinkle hidden treasures throughout. Version 2.2 is a tidy polish of 2.1, fixing typos and minor bugs without altering any core content. For anyone who loves the classic SNES experience but craves something beyond the original, this edition delivers nostalgic fireworks with plenty of surprises.
Storyline
The Chrono Trigger: Schala Edition hack rewrites the original timeline so that Schala is rescued during the climax instead of disappearing. From that point onward she stays in the game world, appearing in towns and dungeons just like any other NPC. Players can talk to her, receive hints, and even enlist her help in side quests throughout the rest of the adventure. The alteration preserves the core story beats while giving Schala a continuous presence, making the experience feel like a true alternate ending rather than a one‑off cutscene.
