Summary
Champions World Class Soccer lands on the SNES as a straightforward 32‑nation soccer showdown, viewed from a slightly tilted side‑on perspective that keeps the action in clear view. The roster is anonymous—no player names appear—but each team is rated for speed, offense and defense, and you can pick from several formations to suit your style.
Gameplay boils down to three buttons: pass, shoot and a handy switch‑player command, while a radar and mini‑map help you track opponents. The options menu lets you toggle fouls and offsides and set the length of each half, making the match as realistic or arcade‑like as you prefer. Two‑player exhibition matches are supported, and a password system saves your progress through the tournament mode.
The European box art is a regional showcase—Ryan Giggs on the UK version, Sepp Maier on the German release, and Paris Saint‑Germain on the French edition. A quirky German translation mistake turns the penalty shootout label into “SCHEISSEN,” an accidental expletive that still amuses retro fans. Announced at CES 1993 under the working title Acclaim’s World Cup Soccer, the game later earned mixed Famitsu scores (7/10, 7/10, 6/10, 4/10) when it hit the Super Famicom in March 1994.
