Summary
Castlevania: Dracula X on the Super NES takes the beloved Castlevania premise and expands it with entirely new stages. While it reuses many sprites from the PC Engine classic Rondo of Blood, the cartridge‑based version adds seven plus branching areas, multiple endings and a variety of secret bonus rooms. The game forces you to choose paths that affect which bosses you face – fearsome foes such as Cerberus, the Minotaur and the Salamander each guard their own cursed domain. You can augment Simon’s trusty whip with magical tomes, power‑up items and even gigantic weapons, letting you tailor strategy to each encounter. Released in North America in late 1995, Dracula X remains a unique blend of familiar horror atmosphere and fresh, non‑linear gameplay.
Storyline
Set in 1792, Castlevania: Dracula X (the SNES version of Rondo of Blood) follows 19‑year‑old Richter Belmont, heir to the Vampire Killer whip and direct descendant of Simon Belmont. He storms Dracula’s castle after his beloved Annette is kidnapped by the vampire’s servant Shaft, who uses her as bait. Along the way Richter rescues several women held captive—Maria Renard, a determined 12‑year‑old; Terra, a nun who mistakes him for a divine figure; Iris, the village doctor’s daughter; and finally Annette herself. After battling the castle’s grotesque minions, including Death, a headless knight, and a minotaur, Richter defeats Shaft and confronts Dracula. Exposing the Count to sunlight forces him to vanish, and the collapsing castle sinks into the sea as Richter escapes on horseback.
