Summary

I first met Brawl Brothers on my SNES and was instantly pulled into the neon‑lit streets of Bayside City, where mysterious disappearances are linked to a shady cloning lab. You control Rick or Doug (the Japanese versions call them Hack and Slash) as they hunt down the three gym mates who were kidnapped.

The game offers five distinct heroes – the street brawler Rick, the hulking cop Doug, the lumber‑jacked judo master Lord J, the speedy ninja Kazan, and the wrestler Wendy Milan – each with a signature throw, from a German suplex to an Atomic Drop that even hit the groin in the Japanese edit. Their boss arenas reflect their styles, like Rick’s steel‑cage platform or Kazan’s rotating dojo.

Combat scrolls horizontally like a classic beat‑‘em‑up; you can grab sticks, guns and grenades, and an “Angry Mode” sparks a burst of power when health drops low. The cartridge even hides the uncensored Japanese version behind a cheat code, complete with extra maze‑like stages and a groin‑kick move that Nintendo of America cut.
